Best Linear Unbiased Prediction -- BLUP -- is a measure of a horse's training that affects the foal(s) of the horse and owner. The lowest BLUP possible is -100 which is only present in newborn foals. The highest is 100 BLUP which can be difficult, but not impossible, to achieve.

Effects of BLUP[]

BLUP is the ability for a horse to pass on its genetics. Two parents with high BLUP will have a greater chance of giving innate/inborn skills to their foals, and a greater chance of an increase in GP. Even if the average BLUP of the sire and dam is 0 (or negative), the foal(s) will still have at least a slight gain in GP. However, Donkeys still have their GP decrease. Breeding a pair of donkeys (both at 100 BLUP) will result in a bigger decrease in GP. Like with IBS, there is a "random factor" in the amount of GP gained each breeding.

Increasing BLUP[]

Increasing a horse's Best Linear Unbiased Prediction (BLUP) is not difficult, but it takes at least ten years of a horse's life. To attain 100 BLUP, you can do:

  • Play with a foal until you can take it for rides
  • when you can take it for rides, do.
  • Train the horses top three skills first.
  • try to train every day
  • missions as well
  • also rides
  • try to breed to 100 BLUP horses.

The percentages of BLUP were previously (until March 2017) broken down as follows:[]

20 % of BLUP is gained each day up to age 10 = 40 points

65 % for all rides and training done in top 3 skills = 130 points

15 % for 20 victories = 30 points

Following March 2017, BLUP is now broken down as follows:[]

40% of BLUP is gained each day up to age 10 = 80 points

40% of BLUP is gained for all rides and training in the top three skills = 80 points

20% of BLUP for 20 victories (each victory adds more BLUP points than the previous) = 40 points

=200 points

Blup from Age[]

As a horse ages, its BLUP increases until it is 10 years old. Here is a table showing, for different ages, what the horse's BLUP will be if it does nothing to increase its BLUP except get older, as well as how much BLUP is contributed from its age.
